Tony Morante

The Bridge Between US History and Baseball

Tony Morante is an avid learner and educator whose passion is to be the link between US History and Baseball. After reviewing the National Assessment of Educational Progress’s (NAEP) reports from both 2014 and 2018, which indicated that only 18% of eighth-grade students are proficient in Social Studies, Tony realized his knowledge and passion could help bridge this gap.

Tony’s love for education, US history, and baseball extends beyond a passion, as he has spent his entire career immersed in these fields. For over a half-century, Tony has been employed by the Yankee Stadium while simultaneously acting as the Vice President of the Bronx County Historical Society, giving him the unique ability and perspective to parallel baseball with American history.

Bringing Tony’s Program into the Classroom

While Tony was employed by the New York Yankees, he was presented with the opportunity to design a program aimed at combining the two concepts of American history and the national pastime. After the program’s initial development, Tony spent five years introducing and building the program into various middle school curriculums and Fordham University.

With extensive experience, knowledge, and skills, Tony is now looking to connect with superintendents and the powers-that-be in the NYC metropolitan education systems. He hopes this program will be considered an alternative in these schools’ curricula to increase proficiency in Social Studies and other relevant subjects.

Most importantly, it is incumbent on those involved in the education process to offer struggling students the tools and resources necessary to excel and grow – which is the very purpose of this program.

Joining Tony – Next Steps

Tony, who is now an author and speaker, introduced and conducted the Yankee Stadium Tours program in 1979. This program’s tours contributed millions of dollars in revenue to the Yankee Foundation – a not-for-profit 501c-3 program designed to benefit education and recreation programs.

Tony wants to make learning exciting and accessible for everyone, so for more information on the program development process, how to implement one of Tony’s programs, or general information on getting the ball rolling, connect with Tony today.

Now is the time for the superintendents and teachers to offer the students an added opportunity to assist in their educational progress.
